¶ "Archibald David Constable (born 24 February 1774 in Carnbee, Fife; died 21 July 1827 in Edinburgh) was a Scottish publisher and bookseller. Born in Carnbee, Fife, into the family of the Earl of Kellie's land steward, Constable was apprenticed to Peter Hill, an Edinburgh bookseller, in 1788; however, he struck out on his own in 1795, becoming a dealer in rare books. In 1801, he purchased the 'Scots Magazine', with the noted Orientalist John Leyden becoming its editor. Constable founded the 'Farmer's Magazine' in 1800, and in November 1802, he published the first issue of the 'Edinburgh Review'. He is known as the publisher of many of Walter Scott's novels (such as the 'Waverley Novels' - the first edition of which comprised 74 volumes) and - following the death of Andrew Bell - of the 4th, 5th, and 6th editions of the 'Encyclopaedia Britannica', the rights to which he acquired in 1812. The publishing house founded by Constable has survived to the present day and is now known as Constable & Robinson" (WP).

* "Mateo Alemán y del Nero (Seville, September 1547 - Mexico City, 1614) was a Spanish novelist and writer. Alemán was born in Seville, Andalucía, where he graduated from the University in 1564. He later studied at Salamanca and Alcalá, and from 1571 to 1588 held a post in the treasury; in 1594 he was arrested on suspicion of malversation, but was [...] released. According to some authors, he was descended from Jews forcibly converted to Catholicism after 1492, and one of his forebears had been burned by the Inquisition for secretly continuing to practice Judaism. In 1599, he published the first part of Guzmán de Alfarache [OCLC 27992346: 'Primera parte de Guzmán de Alfarache', Madrid: Pedro Várez de Castro 1599, datos.ne.es: 'Signatura R/15881'**], a celebrated picaresque novel which passed through sixteen editions in five years; a spurious sequel was issued in 1602, but the authentic continuation did not appear until 1604. In 1571, Alemán married, unhappily, Catalina de Espinosa, and was constantly in money difficulties, being imprisoned for debt at Seville at the end of 1602. In 1608, Alemán emigrated to America, and is said to have carried on business as a printer in Mexico, where he is assumed to have remained for the rest of his life" (WP with quotations from Evelyn Picon Garfield: "Las literaturas hispánicas", Detroit, Michigan: Wayne State University Press 1991; Felipe Villegas: "Un historiador halla pruebas de que Mateo Alemán murió en 1614 en la extrema pobreza", Sevilla, abc.es, 30.07.2011;

[...] Monardes' most significant and well known work was Historia medicinal de las cosas que se traen de nuestras Indias Occidentales, published in three parts under varying titles (in 1565, 1569 and completed in 1574; unchanged reprint in 1580). This was translated into Latin by Charles de l'Écluse and into English by John Frampton with the title 'Joyfull Newes out of the newfound world' [London 1580]" (WP).
